SUMMARY:Venturing into the unknown building TendoJobs.com
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: “DDD: The God that Failed?” \nDDD is rarely applied ‘properly’. When directed at the right sort of problem and executed well\, DDD is a valid solution. But DDD is over-used\, misunderstood\, misapplied\, deified\, and just downright bastardized. It is a small core concept that has gargantuan consequences throughout the solution. \nThankfully\, there are alternatives. By following the Single Responsibility Principle at an architectural level\, we can create a suite of small\, decoupled services with high internal cohesion. These services can be composed and orchestrated in many different ways to solve business problems. \nSpeaker: Gary McLean Hall \nDevelop and Architect. Author of “Adaptive Code via C#” and “Pro WPF and Silverlight MVVM”. Very sporadic tweeter. Code pedant. Frustrated game developer gone corporate. \nVenturing into the unknown building TendoJobs.com \nA talk by Michael Cropper\, founder of Tendo Jobs\, which looks at the technical aspects behind building a tech startup. Starting with the skills required to bring your idea to life\, should you be a specialist or a generalist? Then looking at the underlying frameworks\, technologies and design patterns required to build solid foundations for growth and scale while keeping things as simple as possible to avoid technical pitfalls. Through to how to deal with the inherent unpredictability of software development to avoid wasting endless time debugging problems that should have never existed in the first place. Looking through the entire process\, pitfalls we’ve experienced and how we minimise risk throughout our development using the Model View Controller (MVC) design pattern. \nSpeaker: Michael Cropper \nMichael Cropper is the Managing Director of Digital Agency Contrado Digital and technology startup Tendo Jobs. His day to day activities are very broad\, often with a single day spent doing activities ranging from runing events and careers fairs\, to delivering workshops and training courses\, to pictching for new business\, to getting deep into the code enhancing software projects for clients and Tendo Jobs. \n  \nBook Tickets Here: http://www.meetup.com/GDG-Liverpool/events/232250217/

SUMMARY:Cyber Securing Your Business
DESCRIPTION:Combat and repel malicious hacks that destroy or hold your data hostage for ransom with this day long seminar from Michael Cropper.\n“Learn for yourself how to properly provide cyber security for your organisation.” \nWe live in a digital world where hacked and locked company websites are held hostage for ransom payment on a daily basis\, along with unintentional “human error” resulting in devastating data loss. Cyber security and protecting your digital assets has never been more critical for business! \nThe sad truth is\, every business owner believes they will never be a target\, but that is what all victims of hacking for ransom\, malware\, and Trojan horses think. Obviously it is not true. \nThe good news is\, it securing your business can be accomplished in many easy and affordable ways that we may not be aware of. Michael Cropper shows in this course how easily it can be done no matter how big or small your business may be. Michael’s company deals with around 2-3 hacked websites per month just in our area alone! He will show you in simple steps how to make sure your business isn’t the next victim. \nProtect your website and company data/digital assets against cyber attacks by taking proactive measures to minimise your risk. Cyber attacks on your website have an enormous detrimental impact on your brand as customers see the impact which can result in lost sales and enquiries both now and in the future. Not to mention the legal exposure to law suits as a result of poor data security (c.f. Target Stores\, Home Depot\, etc) \nAnother alarming truth is that most believe that cyber security is being taken care of by their IT team\, web development team or digital agency\, but the likelihood is that it isn’t being taken care of at all. That responsibility is on the owner of the business or the person tasked with “looking after” the company website. \nBook on this course and learn what you need to know about protecting your website and web server against cyber security attacks. This workshop is specifically designed for business owners and those responsible for overseeing the business so that you can put safety measures in place to protect against data theft\, destruction\, and loss due to unscrupulous hackers. \nMichael will also give you the proper elements to be discussing with your IT and web development teams to ensure that your business can be both profitable and safe online. \nThe first half of the course will cover: What you need to know – threats \n\nTypes of Threats;\n\nSocial Engineering Attacks\nUnpatched Software Attacks\nPoor Development Techniques Exploited\nPhishing Attacks\nDistributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Attacks\nBrute Force Attacks\n\n\n\nThe second half of the course will cover: Practical steps\, application combating threats \n\nCombating Threats;\n\nUsing Robust Systems & Processes\nDisaster Recovery and Planning for When Go Wrong\nHardware Level Security\nMultiple Levels of Software Security\nCyber Awareness Training & Development Throughout Your Organisation\n\n\n\nLearn how to “people-proof” your business from cyber thieves and well-intentioned employees by attending this NWL Chamber course: Cyber Securing Your Business \nAbout Michael Cropper\nMichael Cropper\, Managing Director at Contrado Digital and Founder of technology company Tendo Jobs\, has worked with many multi-national brands acquiring expertise in creating and implementing successful digital strategies\, all of which he condenses into this one valuable workshop. \nLunch and refreshments are included in the price of this one-day intensive course. \nBook here: http://www.lancschamber.co.uk/training/cyber-securing-business/

SUMMARY:What you Need to Know about Website Development for your Business
DESCRIPTION:This one-day course is designed for business owners\, directors and marketing managers who need to understand how website technologies impact business growth. Avoid making the same mistakes so many businesses make by understanding website technologies without the jargon and without needing to become a website developer yourself. \nYour website is the focal point of your business with new customers\, current customers\, staff\, investors\, competitors\, journalists and marketers all looking at how you are performing. Your website is the center of your marketing activities yet when implementing poor website technologies\, this can significantly impact your options to showcase your business in the best way possible. \nThe workshop will cover: \n\nWebsite Technologies: What you need to know and how this impacts your business. Covering a range of technologies in the traditional\, and not so traditional approaches to website development.\nJargon Buster: The digital world is full of jargon\, so let’s clear some of this up and see how this translates for your business.\nWebsite Backups: What happens when things go wrong? Be prepared for the worst case scenario and avoid the common pitfalls many businesses make\, i.e. not automating backups.\nWebsite Security: Barely a day goes by without news of a data breach\, website hack or security issue on the news. Website hacking is often not a well targeted attack at your website individually\, rather it is a sophisticated attack on an automated basis. Learn how to protect yourself and avoid your website being taken out.\nKeeping Control: So many businesses give away control of their website to a web developer\, who then goes AWOL. Keep control of your key digital asset at all times.\n\nPlease book directly with the North & West Lancs Chamber of Commerce: http://www.lancschamber.co.uk/training/what-you-need-to-know-about-website-development-for-your-business/

SUMMARY:Securing Your Website to Prevent Hacking and DDoS Attacks
DESCRIPTION:Be aware of the latest threats to your website and how to protect against them. Looking at how your technology choices can impact how vulnerable your website is\, how to prevent attacks with 3rd party software and reviewing your backup strategy for when things do go wrong. What would be the cost to your business if your website was offline for a day? A week? Several weeks or more? Do not make the mistake many businesses do and think that this will not happen to you\, websites are attacked and hacked near automatically these days by sophisticated botnets designed to take advantage of your weakness. \nWhether you are running an ecommerce store or a basic websites\, the costs involved from an attack are huge; \n\nHow many lost enquiries per day would you lose if your website was offline?\nWhat would the value of those enquiries be over the lifetime of those new customers?\nWhat would the lost revenue look like if you are an ecommerce shop?\nWhat would be the cost for you to fix these problems in number of person-hours taken\, and the lost revenue by not having these people work on revenue generating activities?\nWhat would be the reputational damage to your business if your website was hacked and customer details were stolen?\n\nYou have to ask yourself the question\, can you afford not to protect your website? \nSome facts about website attacks; \n\n45% of data thefts are for non-payment card data\n85% of the exploits detected were from 3rd party plugins\nWeak passwords contributed to 31% of breaches\n96% of investigated applications had one or more serious security vulnerabilities\n100% of mobile applications tested contained at least one vulnerability\n71% of victims did not detect the breach their self\nThe average number of days from initial intrusion to detection was a whopping 87 days\n81% of large businesses having experienced security breaches in 2014.\nThe cost of a typical breach is now at £1.15 million\, up from £600\,000 in the previous year.\n\nLarger organisations generally have more security built into their website whereas smaller and medium sized businesses always think they will never be a target. The fact is that many smaller and medium sized business websites are often the targets as they are far easier to break into as they haven’t invested in security.
