Another scam email to be aware of if you receive something similar. You can tell the email is a scam by hovering over, not clicking, on one of the links in the email, it doesn’t link to Apple. If you are ever in any doubt, always make sure you open the website in question in your browser by typing in the address, never click on any links in the emails. For any services like this, you will have a notification waiting in your account if this is genuine.

Thanks for mentioning the Netflix Purchase Phishing Email Scam. Unfortunately, I clicked the Manage/Cancel Subscriptions link before I realised it was a phishing email. Any ideas whether this may have downloaded any malware onto my device and how I could check please? Thank you.

You’re not alone, it’s easily done. Best bet is to run a full antivirus check on your computer. If you entered your login details on the link you clicked on, then I’d change those immediately. If not, you should be OK but keep an eye out for any unusual activity.

Thank you SO SO SO much for the heads up – I received this email and at first had a panic thinking someone had ordered it (cloning logons), then double checked email address, amounts – neither added up so googled and saw this link. I thankfully did not click the cancel/manage link – thank you!!!

Thanks for posting the snapshot of that phishing e-mail. It looks a lot like the one I just received. Thoughts of hacked accounts ran through my head until I read this. I forwarded mine to reportphishing@apple.com for their review.
Great tip Scott, it’s always worth forwarding emails on to the main company where the phishing email is pretending to be from. Unfortunately there is nothing they can actually do about it as emails are so unbelievably easy to spoof. Thankfully there are various technologies that are in the process of becoming more mainstream at the moment which should hopefully aim to combat this a little more in the future. User education is always the most important, hence why we publish regular blog posts like this to make people aware of the latest scams that are doing the rounds.
